The goal of a mommy makeover is to restore the shape and appearance of a woman’s body after childbearing. Many women notice changes in their bodies post-pregnancy. Breasts could deflate or sag, abdomen could sag or there can be stubborn fat, breasts may have gotten too big.
There are many areas of the body that can be addressed, most commonly the breasts, abdomen, waist, genitalia and buttocks. A mommy makeover is typically performed as a single stage procedure.
There are many techniques used to perform a mommy makeover, and many factors should be taken into consideration when choosing which techniques are best:
Desired amount of restoration
Placement of the incisions
Type of implant used
Breast uplift & implants
During the consultation of this procedure, the patient is asked what size she’d like to be and the breast is checked to see how much it has sagged. The implants are usually chosen according to how big the breast pockets are and the patient’s body. For more information about implants, please look at our breast implant surgery page.
Some patients may not want implants (very rarely) and just an uplift, so only an uplift is done. For more information about mastopexy, please check our breast lift surgery page.
This procedure on its own is pretty common. But with the mommy makeover procedure, it isn’t the most common procedure. However, if the patient has a small body but her breast got too big for her liking, a breast reduction procedure can be done instead of breast implants. For more information about this procedure, please have a look at our breast reduction surgery page.
Tummy tuck is a procedure that is done to flatten the abdomen and to get rid of the excess skin. There if the amount of fat or skin isn’t too much, the doctor may choose to do a mini tummy tuck. However, if the excess fat or skin is too much, then the doctor might opt to do an extended tummy tuck. For more information about this procedure, please check our tummy tuck surgery page.
After the pregnancy, it is normal to have fat that just doesn’t go, even if the patient has done exercise and diet, sometimes it just doesn’t go. So, liposuction would be a good choice. There different techniques of liposuction.
Vaser Liposuction and some patients request hi-def vaser liposuction
During the consultation, partner plastic surgeon says which technique he or she will do unless it is already known.
Frequently Asked Questions
+ Are the results of my mummy makeover permanent?
The results of your mummy makeover will last many years but are not permanent. This is especially the case if you have any further pregnancies. This is why we advise that you only consider this procedure when you no longer wish to child-bear.
Many of the mummy makeover procedure results can also be affected by excessive weight loss or gain. For example, dramatic weight loss or weight gain can adversely affect the results of a tummy tuck, liposuction, breast reduction or enlargement and buttock augmentation. Therefore, we recommend that you try to maintain a healthy, balanced lifestyle in order to maintain your results for as long as possible.
